Winnacunnet Warriors

Thomas Lyons scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns to help Winnacunnet raise its Division I record to 4-0 by defeating rival Exeter 31-21 Saturday in Exeter.

Winnacunnet led 24-13 after Lyons scored on an 11-yard run and Sullivan Duffy made the PAT with 9:10 to play. After Exeter trimmed its deficit to 24-21 with 5:14 left, Lyons scored on an 8-yard run with 1:03 remaining.
The Warriors, who led 10-7 at halftime, also received a 51-yard TD pass from quarterback Sean Griffin to Jaxon McDonald, a 2-yard TD run by Griffin and a 42-yard field goal by Duffy. Griffin completed completed 6-of-9 passes for 136 yards and a touchdown, and McDonald caught four passes for 95 yards.
Exeter, which entered the game ranked fourth in the Power Poll, dropped to 3-1. The win moved Winnacunnet to No. 6 in this week’s Power Poll.
The teams first played in 1924. Exeter leads the series 63-31-2.
