NDSU solidifies hold on top spot

North Dakota State’s dominating performance against South Dakota State Saturday night strengthened its hold on the No. 1 ranking in the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 Poll.

It’s the order right below the defending national champion Bison (8-0, 5-0 MVFC) that saw noteworthy change on Monday.

South Dakota State (7-1) dropped from No. 2 into a tie with Montana State (6-2) for No. 4, marking the Jackrabbits’ lowest ranking since they were fourth to end the 2021 season. Tarelton State (9-0) moved up one spot to No. 2 – the highest ranking of the Texans’ six FCS seasons – and Montana (8-0) jumped one spot to No. 3.

NDSU, which is the Stats Perform FCS National Team of the Week for its 38-7 win over SDSU, has been ranked No. 1 the entire season and for 104 of its record 212 consecutive appearances in the national media rankings. All but 10 of those rankings have been Top 10.

The Stats Perform FCS Top 25 Poll is released each Monday during the regular season and one day after the FCS championship game (to be played Jan. 5 in Nashville, Tennessee). A first-place vote is worth 25 points, a second-place vote 24 points, all the way down to one point for a 25th-place vote.
