NHFR Team of the Week: Salem

NHFR TEAM OF THE WEEK
Salem Blue Devils

After squandering a 13-point second-half lead, Salem received a 22-yard field goal from Ryan Bryant with two seconds to play that helped the Blue Devils defeat Winnacunnet, 37-35, in Salem on Friday night.

Salem (5-3, 4-3 NHIAA) led 34-21 after Jordan Zannini caught a 57-yard pass from quarterback Van Mason and Bryant added the PAT with 10:42 to play, but Winnacunnet’s Thomas Lyons scored from a yard away with 8:06 left and then Dom Mancini (21 carries 151 yards) rushed for a 3-yard TD with 1:52 on the clock. Sullivan Duffy’s point-after kick put the Warriors up 35-34.

The second half featured six touchdowns and a field goal.

The victory kept Salem’s chances of earning a home playoff game alive. It also dropped Winnacunnet (6-2, 5-2) behind Manchester Memorial at the top of the Division I East standings.

Winnacunnet led 14-7 after one quarter and it was 14-14 at halftime. Salem carried a 27-21 lead into the final 12 minutes.

Mason also scored on a 1-yard run and tossed a 35-yard pass to Brody Longtin. Salem’s other TDs came on Zannini’s 2-yard run and a 63-yard run by Colin Salkovitz (12 carries, 141 yards).

Winnacunnet received two TD runs from Harvey Reynoso, and a 1-yard TD run by quarterback Sean Griffin.

Bryant’s field goal came after he missed a 42-yard field goal attempt late in the first half, and a PAT following Salem’s third touchdown.
