John Preston resigned as Goffstown’s head coach Thursday after two years with the program. Preston posted the following on the Friends of Goffstown Grizzly Football Facebook page.

“I cannot emotionally give this team and town what they need from a head football coach right now. It would be a disservice to all of you. I need to take care of my family right now and because of that I have to step away.
I apologize that I won’t be fulfilling my promises made of turning this thing around but I have enjoyed my time here and seeing how deeply the majority of you care about football and this town. It is a special place with special people. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your efforts and passion for us and this town.”

Goffstown failed to qualify for the playoffs in each of Preston’s two seasons as head coach.

Before accepting the Goffstown job, Preston spent six seasons as an assistant coach at Whiteland High School, a Class 5A program with about 2,200 students located in Whiteland, Ind.

Preston played football at Bishop Brady, but transferred to Tabor Academy in Marion, Mass., following his junior season. After graduating from Tabor, he played running back and linebacker at Lake Forest College in Lake Forest, Ill.

He spent four years as an assistant coach at Concordia University in River Forest, Illinois, before he joined the Whiteland staff.

The Goffstown job was his first as a head coach.

Fall Mountain, Mascoma, Raymond and Kearsarge, Sanborn and Franklin/Winnisquam are the other NHIAA schools that currently have a head coaching vacancy.
