Leonard lands Concord job

It looks like Concord High School has found its next varsity football coach.

Mike Leonard has been selected to replace Jim Corkum as the school’s head coach. The move will become official upon Concord school board approval.

Leonard, 32, teaches at Concord High School and has been an assistant on the Concord staff for the last two seasons. Prior to his time at Concord, Leonard was on the Saint Anselm College staff for two seasons and on the staff at Goffstown High School for five seasons.

“When Jim decided that he was going to step down I was definitely excited at the opportunity to potentially be the head coach,” Leonard said. “The good thing about it was the other guys on the staff were kind of on board with it as well, so that kind of made this whole thing a lot easier.”

Leonard said he expects most, if not all, of Concord’s 2025 staff to return, including offensive coordinator Dave Levesque and defensive coordinator Ryan Daniels.

“Right now I think the program is in a good spot,” Leonard said. “It just continuing to recruit the halls I guess I’ll say, because there are certainly more athletes in that building that we can get to come out and play. … It’s just building that positive environment and getting the kids to buy into what we’re doing.”

Leonard, who lives in Goffstown, attended Trinity High School, where he played football for his father, Gary, for three seasons. Leonard played football at Saint Anselm College for one season before he transferred to Plymouth State University and played his final three years there.

Corkum resigned earlier this month after he was approved take over as Concord High School’s principal starting July 1. He was Concord’s head coach for five seasons.

Leonard met with the Concord players on Monday.

“We’re going to maintain what we’ve been doing the last few years,” he said. “No huge changes. Maybe some tweaks here and there. The main focus is to be not only great on the field, but to be great people off the field as well.”
