Playoff Projections: Division IV

Here’s New Hampshire Football Report’s best guess as to how things will look when the NHIAA regular season is complete:

Note: All playoff teams in each division are determined by the NHIAA football point rating (explanation below). If teams have the same record they ARE NOT tied unless their point rating is the same.

DIVISION IV
Semifinals: No. 4 Farmington-Nute at No. 1 Hillsboro-Deering; and No. 3 Raymond at No. 2 Mascoma

Comment: Hillsboro-Deering (5-0), Mascoma (4-1), Raymond (4-1) and Farmington/Nute (4-2) have clinched the four playoff berths. Hillsboro-Deering will be the No. 1 seed and will play fourth-seedded Farmington/Nute in the quarterfinals. … Raymond can earn the No. 2 seed if it beats Hillsboro-Deering this weekend and Mascoma loses to Farmington/Nute. If Raymond loses to Hillsboro-Deering, Mascoma will be the No. 2 seed.

Point Rating explained: The NHIAA football point rating awards 10 points for each game a team wins, plus two points for each game a beaten opponent has won. The point total is then divided by the number of divisional games played. So if Team A beats Team B and Team B has a 3-5 record, Team A would receive 16 points  — 10 for the win plus two for each of Team B’s three victories (six total). Team A’s point total is then divided by the number of divisional games it has played to arrive at its point rating. Games against out-of-state opponents and opponents outside the division do not count.
