MOMENTS THAT MATTERED

UNH fumbled away the ensuing kickoff, and that turned out to be the game’s biggest play. James Madison’s Charles Tutt scooped up the ball and scored from 6-yards away to help extend the lead to 42-12 with 10:00 remaining. UNH made things interesting by scoring the game’s final 27 points, but James Madison was able to run out the clock after recovering UNH’s final onside kick.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

It was a key road victory for the Dukes (10-1), who finished unbeaten in CAA play. The victory helped James Madison secure one of the top four seeds (No. 4) for the FCS playoffs.

TALKING POINTS

UNH coach Sean McDonnell: “Great college football game in a lot of ways. Very tough in a lot of ways … It’s a tough, tough loss against a really good football team who had us on the ropes and almost knocked out, but we found a way to stay in it and get close.”

James Madison coach Mike Houston: “To be able to come up here and get the win … it’s a big win for our program, and I thought for three quarters we played about as good as we could in all three phases.”
