MASCAC honors two PSU players

PLYMOUTH – For the fourth time this season a pair of Plymouth State University football players have earned Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) recognition.

Seniors Zack Edwards and former Milford High School standout Mitch Banuskevich were selected to the MASCAC Football Weekly Honor Roll after their contributions to Saturday’s 38-6 Homecoming win over Worcester State.

A 5-foot-10 quarterback, Edwards threw for a season-high 225 yards and three touchdowns. He finished 16-of-27, including touchdown passes of 22, 31 and 45 yards. His 15-yard scramble helped set up a Plymouth State field goal just before the end of the half.

A 5-foot-10 running back/receiver/defensive back, Banuskevich made key contributions in all three phases. He set the tone early, taking the opening kickoff back 57 yards to set up Plymouth State’s first TD. He added a 30-yard return in the third quarter. Defensively, Banuskevich led the Panthers with a career-high 10 tackles (six solo) and one pass breakup, and added two catches for 16 yards and a pair of carries for four yards and a touchdown.

Plymouth State (2-2, 1-2 MASCAC) has a short week to prepare for another league contest. The Panthers head to Bridgewater State for a rare Friday night game (Oct. 5). Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
