Manzyk named Rookie of the Week

RICHMOND, Va. – Oleh Manzyk (Langhorne, Pa.), a freshman linebacker on the University of New Hampshire football team, was named CAA Football Rookie of the Week on Monday.

Manzyk recorded a career-high eight tackles, including a personal-best three sacks, with five solo stops and three assisted tackles in a 26-10 victory over Elon on Saturday. His 55-yard interception return for a touchdown gave the Wildcats (3-2, 2-0 CAA) a 13-3 lead at 4:07 of the first quarter.

Manzyk had three tackles in the first quarter and entered halftime with five stops, including a sack. That sack was timely: With UNH leading 20-10 late in the second quarter, Elon faced 3rd-and-six situation at its 33-yard line and Manzyk stopped the drive with a loss of 4 yards.

He had two more tackles and another sack in the third quarter. That sack came on the Phoenix’s opening drive of the second half and pushed Elon back to the UNH 25, and the visitors missed a 42-yard field goal on the next play.

Manzyk tallied his third sack of the game in the final frame.
