PSU’s Hamilton laying ground work

PLYMOUTH – Following another offensive outburst in a 38-13 victory over Westfield State, the leading rusher from the Plymouth State University football team was honored by the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) with inclusion on its Weekly Honor Roll.

Senior David Hamilton (West Deptford, N.J.) was selected for the honor for the third time this season after leading a devastating ground attack against the Owls. Hamilton carried the ball 22 times for 122 yards and a touchdown, finishing the day as one of two Panthers to eclipse the 100-yard rushing threshold. He crashed through the left side for a 2-yard score to give PSU a 14-0 lead to open the second quarter, and his 34-yard gain helped set up PSU’s third touchdown six minutes later.

Hamilton is currently second in the MASCAC averaging 100.3 rushing yards per game, while his six TDs are tied for the second most. He leads the league with 602 yards on the ground and has moved into seventh on PSU’s all-time rushing leaders list with 2,268 career yards.

The Panthers (5-1, 3-1 MASCAC) host league-rival Framingham State on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the team’s biggest challenge to date, as the defending league champions were the preseason favorites to repeat. Plymouth State will honor its 2019 Athletic Hall of Fame class at halftime, leading up to the induction ceremony Saturday evening.
