DIVISION I 
2020 Preview

Teams in the division:

North: Bedford, Concord, Goffstown, Manchester Central and Manchester Memorial.
South: Londonderry, Pinkerton Academy, Salem, Alvirne and Windham.
East: Dover, Exeter, Portsmouth/Oyster River, Spaulding, Winnacunnet.
West: Bishop Guertin, Keene, Merrimack, Nashua North, Nashua South.

2019 champion: Londonderry. The Lancers capped a 12-0 season by beating Exeter 21-10 in the Division I championship game. It was the program’s first championship since 1998.

Top storyline: Can anyone beat Nashua North? The Titans return a strong senior class and appear to be the most talented team in the state.

Key game: Londonderry at Nashua North (Oct. 23). These are two of the top teams in the state, and something is sure to be at stake when the Lancers and Titans meet on the regular season’s final weekend.

Noteworthy: Timberlane has dropped from Division I to Division II and Alvirne has replaced Timberlane in Division I South. The Broncos were a Division II program for each of the past two seasons. . … Because of travel restrictions, Keene doesn’t have a Division I opponent on its schedule. … All 20 teams will qualify for the Division I playoffs. There will likely be play-in games before the quarterfinal round. The North/East champion will face the South/West champion in the championship game. … Steve Abraham (Salem) and Nick Hammond (Goffstown) are the first-year head coaches in Division I. … Nashua North running back/quarterback/defensive back Curtis Harris-Lopez has six Division I offers: (UNH, Sacred Heart, Central Connecticut, Merrimack, Fordham and Holy Cross). … Quarterback/Linebacker Jonathan Bunnell has transferred from St. John’s Prep in Danvers, Mass., to Exeter. Bunnell is a Kensington resident who helped St. John’s Prep win the Division I Super Bowl last season. … Week 1 games: Goffstown at Bedford, Pinkerton at Londonderry, Central at Memorial, Bishop Guertin at Merrimack, Nashua North at Nashua South, Alvirne at Salem, Concord at Trinity and Exeter at Winnacunnet.
