No. 9: Goffstown 26, Bedford 21

This Week 1 contest was a preview of things to come, as the Grizzlies and Bulldogs also met in the Division I playoffs.

Trailing 21-20 with 5:46 remaining in the game, Goffstown quarterback Jarrett Henault tossed a 3-yard touchdown pass to Peyton Strickland that gave the Grizzlies a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.

Strickland, who missed most of the season due to injury, had 144 receiving yards in the victory. Henault passed for 185 yards and figured in three touchdowns (two rushing), and running back Zach Picard ran for 63 yards and a TD.

The win gave Goffstown’s Nick Hammond his first victory as a varsity head coach.

Bedford received a solid performance from junior quarterback Joseph Mikol (148 yards passing and a touchdown), but Goffstown came up with two late interceptions that put an end to a potential comeback.

Solomon Sanchez was on the receiving end of a 4-yard score with 1:30 left in the third quarter, and also ran for a touchdown. Running back Russell Erwin ran for Bedford’s other TD.

Goffstown also beat Bedford in the second meeting, which came in the Division I quarterfinals.
