Top 10 Games from 2021: No. 3

No. 3: Nashua North 42, Pinkerton 41

They give you four downs on offense, and Nashua North needed each of them to pull out a one-point victory over Pinkerton Academy.

Trailing 41-34 with 32 seconds remaining in the game, North found itself with a first down on the Pinkerton 2-yard line. The Astros kept the Titans out of the end zone on three plays, but North quarterback Derek Finlay scored on fourth down, and then ran in the two-point conversion. After intercepting a last-second pass by the Astros, North secured a 42-41 victory.

North scored three third-quarter touchdowns to take a 34-27 lead into the fourth quarter, but Pinkerton appeared to retake control of the game. The Astros opened the fourth quarter with a 12-play, 85-yard drive that ended with Cole Yennaco’s 5-yard touchdown that helped tie the contest.

Then Tyler LeBlanc recovered a Picasso Bates on-side kick. Five plays later, Jack Mackiernan found the end zone from 12 yards away and the PAT handed the Astros a 41-34 lead with 3:13 left in the game.

North made it tough on itself during its next possession. At one point penalties put the Titans in a first-and-36 situation from their own 36-yard line. Finlay’s go-ahead TD on fourth down was his fourth rushing touchdown of the game. He gained 164 yards on 21 carries. Finlay also completed 14 of 18 passes for 164 yards.

North received two 1-yard touchdown runs from Jordyn Raisanen-Andine.
