CAA honors UNH’s Silver

RICHMOND, Va. – University of New Hampshire defensive end Josiah Silver (Hampton, Va.) was named the CAA Football Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday.

Silver blocked a Monmouth punt on the first play of the second quarter Saturday. Senior Charles Briscoe III (Bowie, Md.) picked up the loose ball at the Monmouth 35 and raced into the end zone to give UNH a 14-7 lead en route to a 31-21 victory. It marked the first blocked kick of Silver’s career.

Silver, a sophomore, finished the game with four tackles, including two solo stops and that sack, as well as the blocked punt.

Silver was selected to the 2022 CAA Football Preseason All-Conference Team. He was also named to a preseason All-America Team by both Stats Perform and HERO Sports.

As a true freshman in 2021, Silver tied for No. 2 in the nation in forced fumbles, No. 5 in sacks and No. 7 in tackles for loss. He was named to three All-America teams, including Second Team by the Associated Press, as well as the CAA Defensive Rookie of the Year.
