No. 8: Timberlane 21, Souhegan 20
Timberlane overcame a 14-point deficit to win this Division I vs. Division II matchup in Plaistow.
Timberlane quarterback Jeremy Mlocek completed just 3 of 9 pass attempts, but two of those completitions were TD passes to Jacob Basnett (13 and 12 yards).
Basnett’s second touchdown catch accounted for the only TD in the second half and capped an eight-play, 55-yard drive. The TD plus Liam Kelly’s PAT handed the Owls a 21-20 lead.
Souhegan, which advanced to the Division II semifinals, moved the ball to the Timberlane 33-yard line on its final possession, but Cameron Nazarian sealed the win by intercepting a pass with 1:02 to play.
Timberlane’s Liam Corman ran for 138 yards on 23 carries in the win. Eddie DiGiulio added 99 yards rushing and a touchdown in the first half before he exited the game with an injury in the second quarter.
Souhegan quarterback Romy Jain was 13 of 28 for 240 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions, but the Owls held the Sabers to 74 yards rushing.
Souhegan running back JJ Bright, the Yukica Player of the Year, caught three passes for 109 yards, including a 57-yard TD reception that came on the game’s second play. Bright also had 57 yards on the ground. Souhegan’s Cole Manning had six catches for 82 yards and a score.
Souhegan built a 14-0 lead on Bright’s TD catch, Jain’s 1-yard TD run and a pass from Jain to Manning with 3:50 left in the first quarter.
Timberlane tied the game on Mlocek’s first TD pass to Basnett and a 6-yard TD run by DiGiulio.
