Shrine Practice: Day 2

New Hampshire practiced in full pads Monday as it continued to prepare for Saturday’s 71st Annual Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl, which will be played at Vermont State-Castleton (11:30 a.m.). … “We got a little more complex with what we’re doing,” New Hampshire coach Josh White said. “In full pads the kids came out of their shell. Coach (Lauren) Gaudette also installed some special teams stuff.” … White said Trinity linebacker/running back Alex Oyaronbi is among those who stood out Monday. … White said the quarterback position is still unsettled, but Pinkerton’s Tim Hersom took a step forward Monday. “Tim is picking up the offense very quickly, but we also have some other guys who are accurate and athletic,” White said. “If one guy stands out he’ll get more reps.” … Tuesday will be Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl media day at Castleton, an event that used to attract double-digit media members when the game was played at Dartmouth and practices were at Kimball Union Academy. … White said New Hampshire isn’t short on playmakers, and listed Oyaronbi, John Stark’s Donnie White, Plymouth Gabe Kean, Sanborn’s Austin Ingersoll and Gilford’s Hutch Haskins. … Team captains will be selected later this week. “Tuesday will be a review day so we can get better at what we’ve learned,” White said. “I’m not worried about being ready, I just want to make sure we’re staying healthy.”
