MANSFIELD, Mass. – New Haven, the reigning Northeast-10 Conference champion, has been unanimously picked first in the NE-10 Coaches’ Poll, which was released by the league office on Tuesday.
The Chargers earned 64 points by virtue of eight first-place votes – tallying top support from each opposing NE10 head coach. New Haven is coming off an 8-3 season in 2023, including a 6-1 mark in conference play and the fifth NE10 title in program history. It is the second league championship for the Chargers in the past three seasons.
Bentley finished second in the poll with 55 points, while Assumption rounded-out the top three with 48 points and the final first-place tally. Bentley finished tied for second with Saint Anselm last season, dropping a 24-17 game to New Haven on the final weekend that propelled New Haven to the league crown.
Saint Anselm was fourth with 43 points, Franklin Pierce was fifth with 32 points and Pace came in sixth with 31 points. Southern Connecticut (27 points) and American International (13 points) were seventh and eighth, respectively, while Post University – in its first year as an associate member in the NE10 for football – was ninth with 11 points.
The 2024 season opens with Post at home against West Virginia Wesleyan College on Aug. 31 at 1 p.m. All other NE10 programs will open from Sept. 5-7.
