CAA honors UNH’s Gibson

Gibson amassed a career-high 108 all-purpose yards and scored on a 2-yard touchdown run to help UNH to a 31-30 comeback win against Stony Brook on Saturday. He recorded 71 all-purpose yards in the fourth quarter to fuel the comeback and secure the victory.

UNH (7-4, 5-2 CAA) ends the regular season Saturday (1 p.m.) at the University at Maine for the Brice-Cowell Musket.

Gibson had a team-high 64 rushing yards on a career-high 17 carries, and also caught three passes for 44 yards.

Gibson’s touchdown pulled the Wildcats within 30-24 at 9:37 of the fourth quarter and was part of UNH’s game-ending 21-0 run.

Stony Brook trailed 31-30 and five minutes remaining and opted to punt (on 4th-and-4 from the SBU 31) with hopes of getting the ball back. Gibson spoiled those hopes, however, with a 19-yard reception on a 3rd-and-8 play followed by back-to-back 13-yard runs that advanced the clock down to the two-minute timeout at the SBU 23. Three consecutive kneel downs ended the game.

Gibson had 49 all-purpose yards on that game-ending drive on five rushes for 30 yards and one catch for 19 yards.
