Reed earns CAA award

RICHMOND, Va.  – Place-kicker Nick Reed, a sophomore on the University of New Hampshire football team, was named the CAA Football Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday.

This is Reed’s second CAA Football Special Teams Player of the Week award this season. He was previously honored Sept. 8

Reed made three field goals to account for all of UNH’s points through three quarters and kicked a PAT in the fourth quarter of the Wildcats’ 24-10 road win against Campbell University on Oct. 18.

“He’s got a big-time leg and he’s poised,” UNH coach Rick Santos said. “(Having a good kicker) is everything at this level. Points are tough to come by. Teams do a phenomenal job of buckling down when you get to the red zone.
“Having someone like Nick who, really you cross midfield you know it’s kind of go-territory for his leg. It really takes a lot of pressure off your offense.”

New Hampshire returns to action Saturday (1 p.m.) at Wildcat Stadium against the College of William & Mary.

Reed gave UNH a 3-0 lead at 6:11 of the second quarter when his 36-yard field goal capped a 16-play, 48-yard drive that lasted 9 minutes, 41 seconds. He made his fourth 50+ yard field goal of the season when his 50-yard attempt sailed between the uprights as time expired in the second quarter to send the Wildcats into halftime with a 6-3 lead.

Reed’s third field goal of the game – this time from 37 yards – extended UNH’s lead to 9-3 at 11:20 of the third quarter. His PAT kick capped the scoring, 24-10, at 1:48 of the fourth quarter.

Reed also had four touchbacks on five kickoffs.
