CHaD GAME
PRACTICE REPORT

Perhaps the best word to describe Team West is “athletic.” That’s a word West coach Robin Bowkett used frequently when he was asked for some impressions following Thursday’s first day of practice for the CHaD New Hampshire East-West All-Star Game. “I think athletically across the board we may be a little bit better than last year in terms of top to bottom,” said Bowkett, who coached the West to a 29-6 victory in the 2021 game. “Especially on defense — the front seven, the back end … there are just a whole bunch of guys who can run to the football. But even up front for us on the offensive side we’re big and athletic. We have guys who can move. We’re not just a bunch of big bodies, so certainly excited about that. And we feel like we’re already ahead of where we were last year even after Day 1, so the kids have picked things up pretty quickly.” … Bowkett said Gareth Armstrong (ConVal), Quinn Healy (Fall Mountain), Will Zemp (Manchester Central), CJ Junod (Bishop Guertin), Camden Wheeler (Merrimack), Connor Williams (Merrimack), Ben Kilgore (Milford) and Antonio Kapos (Goffstown) are among those who will be counted on on the offensive line. … Rocco Ciardi (Nashua North) won’t be playing in the game because he’s still recovering from leg surgery. … Bowkett said Monday will likely be the only day the players are in full pads at practice. …   Those familiar with Bowkett know he’s a high-energy coach, and you can expect that to be evident during workouts.  The West team is practicing at Manchester West. “I want the players to have fun and I think in an all-star game you’re going to see that in full effect at practice,” he said. “We’re still coaching our kids hard, don’t get me wrong, but we’re going to play music. We’re going to have a really good juice to us.” … The West will practice from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday. Both the East and West teams have Sunday off. The East is practicing at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Dover.  All practices are open to coaches and the public. … The game will feature 15-minute quarters this season. … We’ll have a closer look at the East Team in the next practice report. … More information on this year’s game, including how to donate to the cause or purchase tickets, can be found on the CHaD East/West All-Star Game web site.
